“I have a dream that the State of Mississippi, a desert state sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of justice and freedom.”
– Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., from Marks, Martin and the Mule Train by Dr. Hilliard Lawrence Lackey
This 50-year observance of the Mule Train and Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Poor People’s Campaign is an exciting time to share with the world the historical significance of why Dr. King selected Marks. Dr. King’s presence here gave Marks a very valuable gift, the legacy of the Mule Train in Civil Rights history. As the 50th Anniversary approaches, this community is eager to open and share this gift with the world.
